Overview

Students from Elementary school through High School can make a difference in their communities and become participatory citizens. In these engaging lessons, students develop ideas to improve their local community;  take positions to actively influence community decision making and development; and consider one or more of these issues from local, national and international perspectives. During this process, they develop deeper understandings of the policymaking process.

Objective

Students will:
  1. Publicly state a perspective on an important community issue
  2. Support their perspective thoughtfully, using information culled from several resources
  3. Demonstrate listening skills and the ability to engage in civic discussion
  4. Show an understanding of different policy perspectives and the importance of listening to different perspectives when forming their own views towards policy
