Set Up and Prepare
This lesson is best broken up into several days. You will need to decide how much time you want to give students to research, and then to write their diaries. You may decide to have them write an entry a day for a week or two.Staple the colored paper around the writing paper to create a diary. You'll need to decide how many pages you want to include.Note that there are headings in the book pertaining to the days of the week.
Explain to students that they will be choosing an animal, and creating a diary based on that animal. Give students time to research their animal before they start their diary. They may want to learn about habitat, life expectancy, preferred food, family unit, etc.
Students could create dioramas of their animals, with captions on index cards, to explain the scenes.
