Set Up and Prepare
Point out the pages that feature framed shell designs. They appear on the left, and there are five featured in the book.My glue of choice is Elmer's Blue Gel. It tends to dry clear and remain pliable, rather than crack.
Directions
Explain that students will have the opportunity to create paper weight patterns using an assortment of shells. Use the shells and a cardboard strip to create a pattern. Demonstrate that only a small amount of glue is necessary for the shells to stick. Give students time to create and glue their own patterns.
Lesson Extensions
Hold a fund raiser for the local animal shelter. Have students sell their paper weights to raise money.
