Overview
Students make a Clifford headband and make a sign in the shape of a large bone. The following rules are mounted on the sign.
Clifford follows these four rules:
- Be a Friend.
- Listen to the Teacher.
- Raise your hand.
- Clean up messes.
And so do we!!!!
On the first day of school, the student will go home looking like Clifford, holding a bone shaped sign that has the class rules posted on it, and will be able to recite the 4 rules in their own Clifford voice.
Objective
Students Will:
- Follow step-by-step directions.
- Be able to list the 4 classroom rules.
- Be able to respond that rules are important because they keep us safe.
Materials
- Red, white, and black construction paper
- Rubber bands
- Brads
- Patterns for Clifford's head, ear eyes nose and bone
- Printed rules:

- Tongue depressors
Set Up and Prepare
- Template for Clifford head traced on red paper.
- Headbands folded with 2 brads and a rubber band.
- 1 ear traced.
- 1 giant bone traced/tongue depressor stick to hold bone.
- The rules printed.

Step 1: List the mischief Clifford gets into.
Step 2: Brainstorm about the rules Clifford should follow. Note that rules keep us safe.
Step 3: List and explain our class rules:

Step 4: Cut out Clifford head and glue to headband.
Cut out eye and glue to Clifford head.
Step 5: Cut out bone and attach to tongue depressor.
Step 6: Wear headband and hold rules.
