The Magic School Bus: Food for Thought Video Collection
Use these resources to help the children understand the digestive process.

Here are some of the resources that I use for teaching this unit. Look for them in your school library.

Vegetables, Vegetables! by Fay Robinson
This easy-to-read science book is great for teaching about vegetables. Graph the students' favorite vegetables.

Staying Healthy: Eating Right by Alice B. McGinty
This non-fiction book explains nutrients in an interesting way. Use this book to help explain why students need to eat foods from all of the food groups.

This Is the Way We Eat Our Lunch: A Book About Children Around the World by Edith Baer
Learn about favorite foods of children from around the world. On a map find where each of these children live then try out some of the recipes in the back of the book.

Food Safety by Sharon Gordon
This Rookie Read-About Health book is great to teach about food safety. After reading this book have the children create their own book about food safety.

The Edible Pyramid, Good Eating Every Day by Loreen Leedy
Learn about the food groups by going to the Edible Pyramid Restaurant. Have the students create a menu based the food groups in this book.

What Happens to a Hamburger? by Paul Showers
Students love finding out how food travels through their body. This is a wonderful book for teaching about the digestive process.

25 Science Mini-Books for Emergent Readers: Fruit or Vegetable? A Guessing Game by Carol Pugliano-Martin
These easy to read science books are a wonderful motivation for learning to read. Use this mini-book to help teach the differences between fruits and vegetables.

25 Fun-Filled Collaborative Books: Pig Out! by Phyllis Howard and Mariann Cigrand
These are fun patterns for making groups books. Use the Pig Out! cover based on the book Pigs Will Be Pigs by Amy Axelrod to create a class book. Each student would write about the food that they like to pig out on.
