Critters Through the Seasons
SCIENCE, LANGUAGE ARTS
Animals are adapted to deal with the changing seasons. Migration, hibernation, changing coat color, storing food, or putting on fat are all ways that animals cope with the changes in temperatures and the availability of water and food. Invite students to pick a favorite animal and create a mini-book illustrating how it spends the seasons. Students can choose an animal that lives in a climate with four seasons or one that lives where there is only a wet and dry seasonlike the Tropics or southern California. Encourage students to include what sort of home it lives in, what it eats, and how it warms or cools itself.
