Susan Nees grew up on a family farm in Carroll County, Iowa. She has four sisters and five brothers. As a child, Susan loved reading, climbing apple trees, and riding the family go-cart. She attended elementary school at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary where both her parents attended school. Susan attended college at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she majored in Illustration and was the first in her family to get a college degree. After graduating with honors, she went on to work as a freelance illustrator in Minneapolis. She is the recipient of an American Institute of Graphic Arts Award, and her artwork can be found at the Low Library of Columbia University, in the Special Collections at Princeton and Washington Universities.
Susan lives with her husband, her dog Jodo, and a small flock of chickens in Georgia. Missy's Super Duper Royal Deluxe is her first children's book series.
