Richard Egielski is best known for his Caldecott Medal book, Hey Al, by Arthur Yorinks. Two of his titles, Buz and Jazper, were named New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Books. Recent books include Liberty's Journey, by Kelly DiPucchio, a Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Award winner and Saint Francis and the Wolf, which he wrote and was named "The Best Children's Book of the Year" by Bank Street College, as well as The Three French Hens, by Margie Palantini, which won an Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award.
His most recent title is The End, written by David LaRochelle. In a starred review, Kirkus Reviews states that "Egielski supplies plenty of visual juice, beginning with a packed crowd scene featuring a knight, a princess, a dragon, a huge tomato, two giants, a pair of smiling lemons, a swarm of rabbits, a blue flying pig and more."
Richard Egielski lives in Mildord, New Jersey with his wife and son.
