Peter Sis is a MacArthur Fellow, a Sibert Award Winner, and a three-time Caldecott Honoree. He is an internationally acclaimed illustrator, author, and filmmaker with more than twenty books to his credit and almost as many honors. His picture book The Wall: Growing up Behind the Iron Curtain was a 2007 Caldecott Honor Book and was awarded The Robert F. Sibert Medal. Starry Messenger: Galileo Galilei and Tibet Through the Red Box were 1996 and 1997 Caldecott Honor Books, respectively. He is a six-time winner of The New York Times Book Review Best Illustrated Book of the Year for Rainbow Rhino, Beach Ball, Follow the Dream, Komodo!, The Three Golden Keys, and The Tree of Life: Charles Darwin. In addition to writing and illustrating children's books, Peter's editorial illustrations have appeared in Time, Newsweek, Esquire, and The Atlantic Monthly.
Born in Brno, Czechoslovakia, Peter Sis now lives in the New York City area with his family.
