Bio

Lisa Desimini's book My Beautiful Child is about the loving dreams all parents have for their children. “The idea for this book came in an unusual way.” Lisa says, “I was having a hard time working on another story, Dot the Fire Dog, so I decided to meditate to help clear my mind. After about five minutes, the words I want to show you everything my beautiful child came right through the top of my head. I got up, got my pen and wrote an entire poem. I don't have any children but I felt that the poem came from the child we hope to have someday.” When she told her husband, Matt Mahurin, he immediately expressed interest in illustrating it. “Of course this was fine with me.” Lisa states, “My husband is an artist and photographer and this is his first children's book. This is our first project together but not our last.”

Other books by Lisa Desimini include My House, which was a New York Times Best Illustrated Books of the Year and Love Letters, written by Arnold Adoff, which was a Publisher's Weekly and School Library Journal Best Book of the Year. Other notable titles are Sun and Moon, Anansi Does the Impossible, written by Verna Aardema, Doodle Dandies, written by J. Patrick Lewis, Dot the Fire Dog and many more. Lisa's work has also graced the cover of many book jackets, including Walk Two Moons, written by Kathleen Simpson and Animal Dreams, The Bean Trees, and Pigs in Heaven, all written by Barbara Kingsolver.
