John Schoenherr is the award-winning artist of more than 40 books for young readers. Renowned for his stirring images of animals in the wilderness, his work has been featured in such classics as Julie of the Wolves, Rascal, Gentle Ben, and Jane Yolen's Owl Moon, awarded the Caldecott Medal. John did the research for the animals in this book in the countryside surrounding his 1865 Stockton, New Jersey, farmhouse.
