Bio

Deborah Heiligman graduated from Brown University with an A.B. in Religious Studies. She was the editor of Scholastic News from 1981 to 1985. In this position, she helped revamp Scholastic's six elementary magazines, and supervised a staff of writers, editors, and designers to produce a 30-page magazine each week of the school year. Heiligman also worked in publishing at Moment Magazine, where she was Assistant and Associate Editor. Her critically acclaimed books for children include Barbara McClintock: Alone in Her Field and From Caterpillar to Butterfly, both of which were Selectors' Choices on the National Science Teachers Association/Children's Book Council List of Best Trade Science Books for Children, and On the Move, which was named Bank Street Book Committee Best Book of the Year.

Heiligman lives in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, with her husband, author Jonathan Weiner. They have two children, three cats, and one dog.
