As an American writer and illustrator, David Wisniewski was most celebrated for his children’s books. Wisniewski’s signature cut-paper technique in Golem won the 1997 Caldecott Medal for illustration. His other notable books include Tough Cookie, The Secret Knowledge of Grown-Ups, and Halloweenies. Before writing and illustration, Wisniewski spent time as a circus clown and formed a puppetry theater show with his wife, Donna Harris. Wisniewski was born on March 21, 1953, and he died from an unknown illness on Sept. 11, 2002 in Alexandria, Va.
