What Makes My Hometown Special?

By Chelsea Lollar
Scholastic Kids Press Corps

I live in Newburg, Maryland. My hometown is a small city in southern Maryland. The state is located on the East Coast of the United States and has a coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. It shares a border with Pennsylvania to the north, and Virginia to the south.

Many places in Maryland are historic sites. One is Baltimore's Fort McHenry, which came under attack during the war of 1812. It is also where Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner.

My hometown takes education seriously. Teachers, along with students, believe that every child deserves the best possible education. This is why we have a great school system!

Newburg is also special because of the people who live here. I can’t speak for everyone, but the town has many giving and polite people. They are always trying to make others feel comfortable.

There are a lot of great things about my hometown, but the people in Newburg make it the best city to call home. They make Newburg special!
