Brandon Sanderson is the author of the Mistborn series and Elantris, which Orson Scott Card called "the finest novel of fantasy to be written in many years."

Alacatraz Verses the Evil Librarians is Brandon's first book for children.  "The original inspiration for this book came  years before I wrote it — though perhaps ‘inspiration' is the wrong word," says Brandon.  "After all, the very first thing I thought of wasn't an element of setting or plot.  It was just a name: Alcatraz.  It seemed the perfect name for a protagonist to me.  It sounds really neat as a word, and it has a good, solid built-in conflict."
