Bob Balaban is a respected, producer, director, writer, and actor as well as author of the McGrowl book series. He produced and costarred in Robert Altman's Oscar-winning film, Gosford Park, which was named Best British Film of 2001 at the British Academy Awards. He has appeared in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Absence of Malice, Deconstructing Harry, Waiting for Guffman, Ghost World, A Mighty Wind, and The Majestic among many other films, and has appeared on Seinfeld several times as the head of NBC. Mr. Balaban produced and directed the feature film Parents and The Last Good Time, which won best film and best director awards at the Hamptons International Film Festival. Mr. Balaban lives in New York with his wife, writer Lynn Grossman, and his daughters, Hazel and Mariah. At the moment, he is canineless, but he is looking forward to a close encounter with his own actual dog, not just one of the literary kind.
