Bio

Age 11, Pennsylvania

Favorite Subject: Literature

Favorite Book: Inkheart Trilogy by Cornelia Funke

Favorite Music: Grease

Ana Deluca-Mayne is a fifth-grader from Pennsylvania. Born in Mexico, she loves keeping up with current events, particularly political ones. She puts this knowledge to use as a writer: She’s been in the Creative Writing Club since third grade and has contributed stories to the annual literary magazine!

Living in Philadelphia has fed her hunger for history and writing. The city has given her ideas for stories “from chocolate to wars,” she says.

Her love for the city also extends to its people. While interviewing several citizens for an article on Philadelphia, Ana discovered shared feelings on the closeness of the community.

“I know most of the people on my block,” she says. “We know stuff about each other, and if we find something that they might like, we tell them or give it to them.” This is especially important in an area as multicultural as Philadelphia, as Ana has found throughout her life in the City of Brotherly Love.

In her spare time, Ana is a Girl Scout and plays soccer.  She loves to read. Her favorite book series is the Inkheart trilogy. Ana loves being a member of the Scholastic Kids Press Corps and looks forward to covering more stories.

“I read Scholastic News and the Kid Reporter articles online and in school, and I like the topics you talk about,” she said. “ I mean, to write for an actual magazine that is published all across America that millions of kids read would be quite an experience.”
