Bio

Adele Aron Greenspun was born in Philadelphia in 1938. When she was nine years old, her father gave her a Kodak Brownie Box camera, and since then she has never stopped taking pictures. Creating books for her pictures as a child, she discovered a talent for writing and a joy in combining words and illustrations into a whole. Greenspun graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Elementary Education, and she has worked as a teacher and a financial consultant as well as a portrait photographer specializing in families, children, and teenagers.

Though Greenspun has been contributing fiction, nonfiction, and photographs to books and magazines since 1977, she published her first children's book in 1992. The award-winning Daddies was a tribute to her own father, who died when she was 11, through photographs of fathers and children in everyday situations. Greenspun is the mother of two daughters, both of whom have children of their own; her granddaughters, Ariel and Frances, served as models for her book Bunny and Me. Greenspun lives in Philadelphia with her husband. When she is not working, she enjoys dancing, exercise class, cross-country skiing, hiking, riding boogie boards in the ocean, and playing with her grandchildren.
