Bio

Age 13, Massachusetts

Favorite Subject: Science

Favorite Book: Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer

Favorite Music: Everything

Aaron Kanzer, a budding journalist at Barnstable High School, can already boast the publication of numerous articles in his local paper, The Barnstable Patriot. He also writes for two newsletters: The Cotuit Kettleers and The Boston Red Sox Kid Nation.

A recipient of the New England League of Middle Schools Scholar Leader Award, Aaron has demonstrated leadership ability in both academics and community service. He has been a volunteer coach for the Special Olympics for the last two years as well as a member of the Junior State of America, fueled by his interest in politics.

Aaron’s volunteerism arises from a pride for his town, Barnstable, Massachusetts.

“Words can’t describe how much Barnstable truly means to the community and me,” he says. “I will always call it my home.”

His love for the changing seasons and the community’s beaches contribute to his development as a writer and a person.

Aaron enjoys listening to a variety of music when he’s not too busy writing or volunteering. In addition, he likes playing tennis and spending time with his dogs. He is interested in broadcast journalism and hopes to learn more about the business as a Kid Reporter.

“I’d like to learn through firsthand experiences what it takes to become a successful reporter,” he said.
