I use the Teacher Notes app (it's free!) to take quick notes on students... I love that I can tag a single notes to multiple students. Everything from not having homework, or a note saying I need to pull this student soon to reteach something, this is a quick way to record my notes on kids! You can email yourself the recorded notes to print out and use during conferences. If you use the same app on the iPad, it also has the feature where you can graph the number of notes you have on each kid... That way you can quickly see which students have the most/least notes. I prefer to use my iPhone though, because it is small and always with me.
