I thoroughly enjoyed your ideas about Ellis Island. I am preparing a unit on Immigration to do with my class and I never thought of all the ideas for dramatic play that you shared here. I like the fact that your teacher, Mrs. Risi, made such an impact on you with building a house to study New Amsterdam and that you even remember the two boys who played the pigs in the study. I think it is interesting how you remembered that teacher and shared her with us here. It really demonstrates the importance of making learning fun and memorable--something you did for your students with this Ellis Island unit. I don't think that they will ever forget this unit of study with their teacher. Photos are nice and the medical exam is neat. I never would have thought of packing props to go on a field trip--but I will now.
