Wow, I like what you said about the teaching spot. I have one, but I think I have contaminated it with other things like announcements, read-alouds, etc. I have noticed my ability to gain attention has dropped off. I think I will try using the carpet square idea beacuse I know once a couple of kids catch on, I won't even need to explain it myself--the kids will do it for me. I can imagine using it as a launch for lessons, too. I can pretend it's a flying carpet taking us to far away places. I could sit on it to begin a lesson and drive home an appropriate point. I could use it as a building block to start off geometry lessons. Hmmm...what color would I like to use?
