After reading your post, I was inspired. I started reading workshop this week. (I haven't figured out how to fit in writing workshop, so I'll start with reading this year and go from there in the future.) My students love it! It's a bit chaotic, but they are getting more settled into it day by day. I expect that by the end of the second week we'll be in good shape.
After reading your post, I even found the Guided Readers & Writers, still in the wrapper, in my closet. I had remembered seeing the book, but not taking the time to really look at it. It was left behind from the previous teacher. Talk about luck! I like having step-by-step plans for the mini-lessons since I am just getting started with this. I definitely recommend the book to anyone wanting to get started with Reading Workshop.
I just wanted to let you know that I really appreciate you posting this information and I'm so glad to be started with a fun and exciting reading routine with my students!
