I teach a multi-age classroom of 4 and 5 year olds. They also enjoy Clifford and The Littlest Pilgrim. Some of other favorites include:
One Little, Two Little, Three Little Pilgrims by B.G. Hennessy It shows children doing their daily activities and how they helped their families. I like to sing it to the children. Then we talk about how the pilgrim and Wampanoag children are alike and different from us.
My First Thanksgiving by Tomie dePaola
Tomie dePaola is one of our classes favorite authors and illustrators. This is a simple book and I like to use it to introduce Thanksgiving. It talks about the first Thanksgiving and also how we celebrate today. I like how it relates the old and new, and how it is always important to be thankful.
Thanksgiving Day by Gail Gibbons
This book is more detailed, yet simple enough for the children to understand. It gives the story of the first Thanksgiving and then talks about ways we celebrate today. Again, I like how it relates the old and new. I think it is amazing how things may change through time, but we still keep a focus on those things that are important to us, like our families and friends.
Thank you for taking the time to share some of your favorite Thanksgiving books. I do have most of those and my students love them! Thanks again for sharing with us.
Smiles,
Megan
