I have celebrated Halfway Day for several years in my 2nd grade classroom. Here are just some of the things we do:
1.Each student brings 50 pennies (half a dollar) and uses them for a variety of projects, such as shadings, put them in order by dates, etc, and then have them trade their pennies for a real half-dollar at the end of the day.
2.Bring a half cup of snack food (like pretzels, small crackers, M & Ms, skittles) and then mix. Everyone gets a half cup for their treat.
3.Dress half and half. One red sock, one blue sock. One side of hair in braids, one side of hair in barette. One long sleeved shirt, one side rolled-up.
4. Half way photos: I take photos of the students the day before, print them and then cut them in half. They get one half of the photo and then draw the other half.
