I have about 2 hours to work with in my reading/writing block. I have come to the realization that teaching with the anthology "works," but does not really promote a love of reading in my students. They are bored, inattentive, and unenthusiastic. I find that reading in whole groups doesn't help, and letting them read completely independently isn't working either. I want to begin implementing a reading/writing workshop and am reaching out to other educators about where I should start. I think the problem for me is figuring out the scope and sequence for reading lessons, as well as accepting the idea that a mini lesson will be sufficient for MOST , but not all, of my students. Are there any books available that sort of map out the lessons students should be getting throughout the year? I am not looking for anything that's already done, per say, just a guide to help me figure out where to start and what path to continue on. Hopefully you can help! Thanks!
