I like how you started out with a simple assessment of the student abilities and that you focused on what they could do rather than on what they couldn't do.
The list of skills that the children at each level should be able to do is a good way to help a newer teacher who isn't sure where to place certain kids is extremely helpful. As well as the suggestions of the different books to try with the different levels of students so that you aren't stuck with using the same books that are provided with the reading curriculum. My students enjoy reading other books and it is a better learning experience for them to be exposed to a variety of books.
