Adding to the above response:
One tricky thing about blogs is that many people read them and few comment. I have experienced this with my Scholastic Blog. There can be times when you are wondering if anyone is reading your hard work since no one has commented. The answer is YES. People are reading but for some reason need to be enticed to respond. I used to be a person that didn't comment but read everything. It wasn't until I started blogging that I started commenting to peoples blogs and websites.
Sorry for the long response- Last year for our class blog I had the same trouble. Towards the end of the year I posed a question about which endangered animal we should use our collected money to help. I told the kids and parents that I would only count votes from people that voted by commenting back. All of a sudden I was getting email about how they can comment back and what they needed to do. It really woke them up. I am hoping to add a little more of that this year. I also think having student writing up there and highlighting it will help entice parents to respond to the kids. Once we move to full day kindergarten in October we will start our class blog. I am sure I will be posting soon about spicing up your blogs and attracting comments from parents and other readers. I kno I need to work on that as well.
Happy blogging. Please send me your blog link. I'd love to read it!
