I am also a 3rd grade teacher and I'm so grateful for all the information you have shared! I can't tell you what a role model you are for me! I am using writer's workshop and moved away from the basal, but still teach the reading strategies using the CAFE. When colleagues find out I do writer's workshop or don't use the basal, they tell me that I "have to" do whole class assigned writing projects and use the basal because that's what the district says. It is my understanding that the students and the standards are what we teach, not the basal. My question is: Have you had this issue and how did you deal with it?
Hi Beth,
I am also a 3rd grade teacher and I'm so grateful for all the information you have shared! I can't tell you what a role model you are for me! I am using writer's workshop and moved away from the basal, but still teach the reading strategies using the CAFE. It is my understanding that the students and the standards are what we teach, not the basal. My question is: Have you had this issue and how did you deal with it?
Thanks so much!
