I have a question about the HF word lists - what do you do with student who spell really well? I have students who are always scoring 95% or better on the HF word lists. Two in particular are already into the 700's. Each list gives them about 3-5 words, which, of course, they spell correctly on the test. Basically, they go through a HF word list every week. Testing them seems so laborious. Last week, one of the students said, "Ugh, I got all of them right?" We realized that's NOT the way to be thinking about spelling correctly.
I'm implementing portions of your program this year - slow and steady. I struggle to find as much time as you must have without sacrificing science or history - I would to see a weekly schedule for your class to see if I'm missing a way to fit all of the programs into the week.
One strategy I have used is to do the tests on Thursday, so the students receive the results back Friday morning. Then, we go through your Monday work on Friday, so the students have the weekend to give some of this a try. My tests results improved when I gave the students the weekend to start studying.
Your program well structured and is the best program I've seen because it balances HF with patterns, has differentiation opportunities, and tests students on the "pattern" as much as the word.
Thank you so much for putting this out. It has been so helpful, and I feel like I've finally found the spelling program that works for my class.
