Exploring Health Sciences
Our teacher advisors explore the link between health, science and education that schools can play. Their thematic units bring personal and environmental health issues to life using real-world examples based on their students, schools and communities.
Unit Plans
Nutrition and Me
An activity that introduces students to the food pyramid, food groups, and the relationship between nutrition and a healthy body
Environmental Health
Planetary environmental health is examined by investigating the causes and effects of over-consumption and pollution of our natural resources by humans and how to better care for our air, land and water so that human health and our planet benefits.
The Human Body Project
Students will research and assume roles as medical specialists through hands-on projects, research, reports, and presentations. Culminating activities will include working with a health specialist to dissect/observe cow eyes, sheep brains, pig lungs, pig heart, or various bones (including cow, rodent, and human bones).
Self Esteem in Middle School
Help build positive self-esteem by teaching students to look at their unique qualities and how they are physically and emotionally changing.
