Celebrate Writing and Young Authors!

Every day in my classroom students spend time writing, either by themselves or with partners. Some students illustrate books while others peer edit or meet with me. Every week, we have Writers Workshop in our classroom, and when a student has a completed book, they present it at Author's Chair. I am pleased to share with you a fun Author's Chair video featuring several of my students. Enjoy!

Giveaway winners announced at the end of this post!

If you don't have a young authors' fair in your district, here is your opportunity to have one at your school. My school district holds the Young Authors' Faire for all the schools in our district to participate in. Each school is allowed to send up to ten books. Many schools hold a writing contest before sending on the winners to the county level. In Orange County, the Young Authors' Faire displays books from all over Orange County. They also provide goodie bags for each young author, a pancake breakfast, and tons of entertainment. This year, the Imagination Machine performed; several authors and illustrators signed books, including Fancy Nancy illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser; and there were several stages with writing activities in between.

I'm very proud of my students who write stories, and I am especially proud of the students that were able to participate in this year's Young Authors' Faire. Here are a few photos from the event in the book display room, interactive writing room, and Mr. BARK's Read Around Room. For more pictures and videos of the event, check out the Young Authors' Faire Web site!

Normally in our class, when a student has finished a story and the illustrations are complete, we have Author's Chair. Here is a peek into Author's Chair in our classroom:

Happy teaching,

I really love this idea of creating an authors' fair at my school. Writing is a very difficult subject for the students at my school. This authors' fair could give my students motivation and a reason to write. Over time and with some practice an authors chair in my classroom could be a great way for students share their work and feel like there is a purpose to what they are doing. All they need is some motivation to begin enjoying their writing. Thank you for sharing.

Wow this is a great idea.. thanks for sharing =)

Thank you so much Nancy! I love reading your posts! These will definitely come in handy moving grades from 4th-1st
