Labor Day Activities

By Eric Antuna on September 3, 2009

September is here and Labor Day is MONDAY!  So, I just wanted to share with you a few ideas that I'll use in my class on Friday, September 4.

1. Scholastic Printables has a very nice collection of materials for you to use.  There's a good brief worksheet about the history and reason for Labor Day as well as (a great find!) a nice word bank to post in the classroom with fantastic academic words.  There's also a PLAY for those that can handle it (I just might try it....)

2. I'll give my students a writing topic: "When I grow up I would like to become..." using the academic words from the activity above as well as some pages from this site, I'll have some students present their "what I want to be" speech.

3. If time, I'll try some video with my students reciting their speeches to the class and allow them to view each other's as if they are interviewing in a newspaper or TV broadcast.

Do you have any ideas?

I loved the academic word bank and the way you showcased your labor day writing in your classroom! Keep on being grand.

Thanks for sharing! I am celebrating the beginning of the school year at my blog. I would love to have you celebrate with us too, Eric! Free teaching giveaways every day with great ideas to go along with the goodies!

Thanks for the comments!

We really appreciate all the ideas!
