About This Book

It is May 15, 1776. When Mary Geddy wakes up this morning, she can already feel the excitement in the air. Today, the colony of Virginia will cast its vote either for or against independence from Great Britain.

Mary tries hard to concentrate on her chores, but all she can think about is the outcome of the colony's vote. For if the vote is for independence, her best friend will have to move back to England. How sweet could freedom be if Mary must lose her friend and if Papa must go to war?

Photographed in Colonial Williamsburg, this intimate and accessible glimpse of daily life not only shows one of the moments in history that led to the American Revolution, but also touches on how children's lives
were affected by impending war and separation from friends and loved ones.
