About This Book

This little book is a tasty celebration of Thanksgiving by acclaimed children's poet Jack Prelutsky and favorite illustrator Marilyn Hafner.

As he has done in several other holiday offerings, as well as in his best-selling collections The New Kid on the Block, Something BIG Has Been Here, and A Pizza the Size of the Sun, Prelutsky captures kids' concerns in a bouncy verse that is sometimes whimsical, sometimes serious. The 12 poems focus on a variety of topics, including helping Grandma with the meal, seeing a parade, working on school projects, pondering the Pilgrims' Thanksgiving, eating too much — and eating too little, because of inconvenient braces. There's even a philosophical poem here: "If Turkeys Thought." Hafner's line-and-wash illustrations match the tone of each selection perfectly.
