Imogene's Antlers Extension Activities

About This Book

When Imogene wakes up one morning with enormous antlers growing out of her head, she's surprised — but not as much as her mother, who faints more than once at the sight of her. Neither the doctor nor the school principal can figure out what has happened or what to do, but the maid, the cook, Imogene's brother, and Imogene herself have the right attitude. Though getting dressed, walking through doors, and even coming downstairs can be a challenge, Imogene finds that her antlers are perfect for drying laundry, carrying donuts, and decorating with candles. After all, hiding them under a hat doesn't really help, as readers will see.

Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on your attitude), the next morning, Imogene's antlers are gone. But when she comes down to breakfast, readers will see what her family thinks…of her new peacock tail! David Small's buoyant illustrations carry the joyous humor of this fantastical idea to epic proportions. Since it first came out, his witty, understated tale has delighted children and adults alike.
