About This Book

This biographical overview of Washington's life, both personal and political, is a stunning tribute to this heroic and legendary American. Many significant events of his childhood, his courageous leadership during the American Revolution, and his contribution to his country as the first president of the United States, make up the impressive story of this famous American general. Giblin includes supplementary material ( "More About George Washington") which includes the cherry tree myth, some of Washington's rules of behavior, and information about monuments devoted to Washington, including Mount Vernon, his historic home.

Michael Dooling's full-page, impressionistic oil paintings incredibly depict the American colonial period, and the man who largely helped define it. This book has garnered an array of awards, including an American Bookseller's Pick of the Lists, a CBC/NCSS Notable Children's Trade Book in the Field of Social Studies, and a Book-of-the-Month Club selection.
