About This Book

Their names are Caesar, Patches, and Zorro and they are among the 17 brave and heroic dogs profiled in this fascinating collection of true stories. From St. Bernards and German shepherds to poodles and other smaller dogs, these animals perform amazing acts of courage and sacrifice. In each story they willingly put their own lives at risk to save a human being from harm's way.

During World War II, dogs in K-9 army units are trained to guard against sneak attacks or run lifesaving messages past enemy lines. One of these dogs is even honored by the president! In another story, a woman is lost in a forest with her grandchildren and all hopes of finding them are lost until a dog trained to track air scents is brought in to help. There are other dogs profiled that work with fishermen. And still others are just somebody's loveable house pet that saves their master from drowning, or from a burning house, or even from an attack of a rattlesnake!
