Since her parents are veterinarians, Mandy Hope is an expert on animals from rabbits and hamsters to kittens and puppies. She and her friends help animals in need — and sometimes Mandy gets the animals to help kids in need.

Mandy's new friend John Hardy is simply nuts about bunnies! He draws pictures of them, he dreams about them. He becomes dead-set on acquiring the two baby rabbits in the local emporium, Barney and Button. Alas, he misses his chance. Here begins the quest to find them, and their new owner. Mandy and James are soon getting into all sorts of escapades in pursuit of this noble ambition! They track down the new owners and to try to persuade them to give the rabbits to the more deserving John.
