About This Book

This compelling book introduces young readers to black men and women who are heroes of their own time. Some are from the past; some are contemporary, but all have overcome great obstacles to make significant contributions.

In this book, the Afro-bets Kids introduce 49 black men and women who are heroes of their time. They are scientists, writers, athletes, and singers. There is an arctic explorer named Matthew Henson and an African warrior named Shaka Zulu, along with political leaders like Jesse Jackson, Harriet Tubman, and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The accomplishments of these black heroes can help children realize that they, too, can overcome obstacles and reach their goals.
