Class or school-wide contests are a terrific way to motivate students to read independently throughout the school year. Our school recently held a Read-A-Thon contest in which students from grades Pre-K – 5 were encouraged to read as many books as possible and complete book reports for each. The top 3 classes were treated to an ice cream sundae party!
