What story will you tell with your life, and when you look back from the future what will you see?
Who are you? What kind of a life are you living? What do you want to accomplish with your life? Lives are like stories – they have a beginning, a middle and an end. And they also have changes in them. Some changes are gradual. Other changes come out of the blue, and turn everything around so the whole world looks different. And then there are inspired changes that help you understand in a new way what you already know.
Lewis Hinton has had two out-of-the-blue changes in the past year. The first happened a year ago, on his fifteenth birthday, when his parents told him he’d been adopted in very strange circumstances. The second change was really a whole series of changes. His parents gave him a letter from his birth mother, he learned his name was Louis Poissan, and that he might be descended from French royalty. As a result, Lewis’s life suddenly took off in a whole different direction.
Your life is like a story you write yourself, based on who you are, what happens to you, and how you react to it. Lewis’s story is about an ordinary teenager, a mysterious letter, a book of French history, a giant trout, a fourteen-foot ladder, a near death experience, and an unexpected romance. How all these things, and more, fit together is the story of the King of Slippery Falls.
