Inside the Writing Traits Classroom K-2

The energy and enthusiasm that master teachers bring to the writing classroom can be contagious. That's why we're happy to share with you the effective and passionate teaching methods used by five colleagues from Council Rock Primary School in Brighton, New York.
Through a series of lesson plans and video demonstrations, these teachers show how they have successfully implemented the writing traits model in their primary classrooms. Cathy Hutter, Paula Tantillo, Lura Kelly, Jamie Bozek, and Nita Fiore have worked together, developing a method in which they apply assessment and then design targeted lessons and activities to develop writing skills. This two-pronged approach not only produces strong and independent primary writers, but also saves those teachers time, a definite bonus.
