Help Students Discover their Family Heritage

A fifth-grade class delves into the past with scrapbooks, maps, photos, and keepsakes.

  • Grades: 3–5, 6–8

Do your students know their great-grandmother’s favorite recipe? Fifth graders at Jericho Middle School do, thanks to the annual Heritage Day project.

Over the course of several weeks, students in Mrs. Aloe’s class delved into the past; they collected comprehensive data on their ancestors, tracked their lineage, and interviewed relatives to learn the history of their families—and themselves.

Diverse origins Students mapped their ancestors’ origins, finding roots in Italy, Germany, Puerto Rico, and around the world.

Say “heritage!” Jericho students display their heritage books. Students conducted in-depth research over an eight-week period.
