The Christmas Doll Booktalk
- Grades: 3–5
Can a dirty, discarded doll be the magical one that can change their lives forever?
They were alone in the world, ten-year-old Lucy and six-year-old Glory, for their parents had been taken away by the fever that swept through London in 1848. When our story begins, they had been living at the workhouse for five years. Lucy had few memories of her parents, and Glory none at all. They spent their days knitting stockings or stitching sacks. And almost every night one or more of the girls were taken to the sick room, and never returned.
Then one day, while searching the muddy banks of the river for rags or nails to trade for food, Lucy found a dirty, discarded doll, that Glory insisted was her own doll Morning Glory come back to her.
