Scholastic’s chart of “World Famous Mountains” (grades 3–8) offers students a quick, easy-to-digest listing of the 10 most celebrated mountains in the world, including where they’re located, their height, and when they were first climbed.

Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, sits atop of the chart. Two U.S. mountains – Mount McKinley (Alaska) and Mount Ranier (Washington) – make the list.

Learning Objectives

In the course of using in this chart for their online project, students will:

  • Improve content-area reading skills, applying various reading strategies
  • Use the Internet for research
  • Develop vocabulary and factual knowledge associated with mountain climbing, Sir Edmund Hillary, and Mount Everest
