Created with Grolier Online, Scholastic’s “Research Starters: The Olympic Games” offers a wealth of information on the subject for students writing about it.

Students can read a brief history on the Olympic Games, from their start in ancient Greece until today, and brush up on common terms to know with our glossary. Students will also find links to articles on everything from Gymnastics to Track and Field to Swimming and more.

Finally, Scholastic tracked down 12 compelling, useful Web sites for students to explore, including:

  • United States Olympic Committee: The United States Olympic Committee offers information about the organization, Olympic sports, U.S. Olympic champions (brief career capsules), educational resources, and more.
  • Ancient Olympics @ University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology & Anthropology: Online exposition devoted to the ancient Olympic games. Includes FAQ, a glossary of terms, and links to related Web resources. Provided by the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.
  • Virtual Gallery: Los Angeles Public Library offers a collection of well-illustrated virtual exhibits devoted to the history of the city, including such topics as 'Golf in Hollywood' and '1932 Los Angeles Olympic Games.'
