The “Investigate” activity, part of Scholastic’s Weather Watch series, offers students two exciting interactive activities that help them investigate weather causes.

1. Weather Detective Web Quest: Students solve three weather mysteries from around the world.

  • Case 1: How does the weather affect the fish in the ocean in Ecuador?
  • Case 2: Is a tornado brewing in the Midwest?
  • Case 3: When will the rainy season in India end?

Using Scholastic’s clues, students conduct research to explore the answers to all three case studies. Using our online form, students write up their discoveries.

2. Weather Maker: With Scholastic’s virtual landscape, students can turn sunny skies into the perfect day for a snowstorm with a few clicks of a mouse. While manipulating the weather, they’ll gain insight into how weather works, and learn a few basic weather rules.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

While participating in Weather Watch’s “Investigate” activity, students will:

  • Formulate questions to help guide their own learning
  • Gain knowledge of weather terms and their appropriate usage
  • Use observation skills to determine current weather conditions
