Explore Immigration Data
In this multi-faceted activity, students analyze immigration statistics by studying Scholastic’s charts and creating their own.
- Grades: 3–5, 6–8
The Explore Immigration Data activity gets students using graphs, charts, and tables to understand different visual representations of immigration statistics.
First, students select a 50-year period between 1820 and 2010 to study from Scholastic's immigration data. In groups, students research major world events that occurred during their chosen time period and draw connections between the events and immigration to the Untied States.
Then, students answer a set of questions on immigration by closely reviewing Scholastic’s immigration statistics and conducting their own research.

From 1820 to 2010, which three countries had the highest number of immigrants come to the United States?
