7 Hat Challenge: Master the Roles of the President
In this exciting interactive activity, students explore the seven “hats” worn by the U.S. President, from Chief Executive to Head of State.
- Grades: 3–5, 6–8
Students can play Scholastic's "7 Hat Challenge: Master the Roles of the President" (grades 3–8) to learn about the seven major areas of responsibility that presidents manage:
- Chief of the Executive Branch
- Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces
- Head of State
- Director of Foreign Policy
- Political Party Leader
- Guardian of the Economy
- Legislative Leader
This interactive activity teaches students about the presidency in a thoroughly fun, engaging way. First, students select a level of difficulty (easy or hard) and imagine they are the future president-elect! Fortunately, they can travel back in time and “train” with past presidents on each of their seven duties. Each president poses questions about a specific role; if the student answers correctly, he earns that hat. A “Hat-o-Meter” keeps track of students’ progress.
Learning Objective
After participating in the "7 Hat Challenge: Master the Roles of the President," students will be able to identify and describe the seven major responsibilities of the American President.
